Series of Letters from 1941 to 1943 from Herman Shultze

March 2, 1941

Dear Parents and Lisbeth,

With tremendous joy, I got your letter yesterday. Hopefully, the flu didn’t get you too bad so you can enjoy this beautiful spring. I am healthy and happy like a fish in the water, so you don’t have to worry at all. I only wished that my father would be somewhat well. I return all your greetings and please say “hi” to all your acquaintances you write about and write in more detail like in your last letter.

Herman

Why does he tell his family he is, “healthy and

happy like a fish in the water”?
