Tefillin Box and Childs Tzitzit

Jews were told that they were relocating and needed to pack a bag to take with them. This was a lie told so that Jews remained calm and did not suspect they were being sent to their deaths. Jews brought everyday items with them that they would need in their new lives. Many brought religious items with them.

This is a box for Tefillin, or phylacteries, which are small leather boxes containing scrolls from the Torah. Observant men wear these during morning prayers. Also shown are a child’s Tzitzit, special knotted fringes worn to remind the user to always think of God.
